Emberfield is an acoustic folk trio from Vancouver, British Columbia. Since its foundation in 2010, Emberfield has played over 40 shows, released 2 EPs, and survived a tour of Western Canada.
In Emberfield’s life, the band has transformed from a six-piece, fully electric, indie-rock band to an acoustic indie-folk trio featuring Steve Marriott (guitar and lead vocals), Gavia Lertzman-Lepofsky (fiddle and back-up vocals) and Jessica Heaven (vocals). This metamorphosis gives Emberfield’s music the power and groove of rock n’ roll combined with the delicacy of folk lyrics and harmonies.
Their debut single, "Shine", received significant airtime on CBC radio and various college stations, resulting in positive feedback through the band's social media conduits and various music review ventures (The Province, The Georgia Straight, and Vancouver Music Review). Emberfield's musical prowess has been described as possessing a "restrained dignity" with "soulful compositions revealing greater subtleties" (Tom Harrison, theprovince.com, 7/18/2013).
In 2014, Emberfield worked with local producer Brendan Steele to record a new EP called “Let It Out” featuring 4 new original songs. The single “This is Home” and "Wheels in Motion" were featured on the Cates Park Concert Series compilation albums of 2014 and 2016 respectively.
With a constantly evolving sound and a drive for new adventures and melodic textures, Emberfield stands to become one of the premiere independent acts turning heads in Western Canada.
Steve, Gavia and Jessica have greatly differing musical backgrounds and influences that meld into a single musical force. Gavia is a classically trained violinist with a passion for swing and bebop, while Steve has roots in alternative rock and a love of indie-rock. These influences are tempered by Jessica's R&B inspired vocals and her training in the jazz program at Capilano University. Together, with Steve's captivating lyrics invoking vivid imagery, the enchanting fiddle accompaniment, and vocal harmonies, this trio rapidly has you tapping your feet.In 2013, Emberfield released their debut CD, "Lost and Dreaming", to a sold out Joe's Apartment. The show featured guest instrumentalists, pedal controlled stage effects, and a homemade, human powered T-shirt cannon.
